Unit 10 Final Over View

Hello Everyone,

After the last ten weeks i have truly learned  a lot during this course. This course has enabled me to grow as a person mentally and physically. Taking this course I have learned many exercises that I can practice and engage in to continue to grow as a professional in my field of Health and Wellness. This course has been very informative as well as submitting a blog each week has allowed me to be more friendly with others. The loving kindness exercise as well as the visualization exercise were truly my favorite exercises. Overall though I enjoyed this course and it was pleasure interacting with all of my fellow classmates. I wish you all the best on your future endeavors. I plan to implement some of the exercise with the youth that i work with at the Boys & Girls Clubs and I was even interested in maybe trying to start yoga at the facility as well. I think the youth would love it and it would allow them to be more aware of their health mentally and physically as well.

Unit 9 Final Project

I. Introduction:

Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?

Answer:

It is important for wellness professionals to develop in these three areas because you should practice what you preach. By developing these areas though it will enable them to have a clear mind and to create a sense of happiness and positive health. It will enable one to create balance between life and to truly enjoy it. Developing psychologically will develop ones mental training. Spiritual health is considered to be the search for meaning and purpose in human existence, leading one to strive for a state of harmony with oneself and others while working to balance inner needs with the rest of the world. Engaging in activities such as yoga and meditation when enable one to be more spiritually in tuned with their self. The areas that I would need to develop are psychologically because I tend to stress a lot about everything and I need to learn to create a still mind and to focus on other things that will give me a sense of clarity.

II. Assessment:

How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically?

Answer:

Yes, I have assessed my health in each domain and I have come to realize that I need to work on the psychological domain. my physical wellbeing is at a 9 because I have been training for a marathon that will take place in January. As for my spiritual wellbeing it would be at a 8 because I have a high sense of faith and I attend church and I try to spiritually stay connected in all aspects. My psychological wellbeing would be low at a 6 because I keep everything inside of me that bothers me. I do not really release how I feel with others and I try to keep to my self because then I don't have to worry about others and what they think sometimes.

III. Goal Development:

List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual.

Answer:

A main goal for the physical domain for me is to continue to work out on a daily basis but incorporate eating healthy along with it. As for my psychological domain I need to open up more to the people that care for me on a daily basis. Also by doing this I will allow myself to relieve stress and to be balanced. To reach these goals I will continue to do yoga as well as go running which would help my spiritual well being. Also I will speak to others more often and stop keeping my feelings in and release them positively. By doing this I will ultimately allow myself to be at peace and allow myself to create balance that will be positively beneficial for myself.

IV. Practices for Personal Health:

What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example.

Answer:

The strategies that I could foster when it comes to spiritual health is to continue to participate in Yoga as well as meditation. Some meditation and prayer exercises could be done and I could also have compassion and love for others to give me a clear and still mind. As for psychological I could engage in the activities such as loving-kindness and subtle mind. By staying positive and creating happiness for my self I will let myself maintain a positive health mentally. Also a really good exercise that I could engage in would be the visualization exercise. It allowed me to focus on happiness and to eliminate any negative feelings that I was feeling at that point in time. As for physical I will continue to stay physically active by training for my marathon and by working out and eating a healthy diet. Partaking in all of these activities will be very beneficial for my overall health in the long run but will truly make me happy right now is I stick with it.

V. Commitment:

How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?

Answer:

The way that I can definitely assess my progress for the next six months would be to keep a journal . In this journal I will write down everything that I do for the day right before I go to bed. In maintaining my long-term practices for health and wellness I will continue to keep a log especially if I maintain it for the first six months. By engaging in these three domains I will enable myself to get stronger mentally, physically and spiritually. Doing this will allow my self to have a better and positive attitude that will not only help me in the work place but with school and working out on a daily basis. I think if I also continue to write on my blog then it will let me interact with fellow classmates who are doing the same as I am.

Unit 8 My favorite exericise

Hello Everyone,

My two favorite exercises were visualization and subtle mind. The sublte mind exercise allowed me to relax and focus on the important but not only for myself but for others. The visualization exercise allowed me to put three great times where I felt happiness, love and great health and incorporate them all together. This exercise was truly my favorite because It enabled me to bring up past happy moments with and individual. The individual is no longer a part of my life but the time we had together was great. That exercise I felt peace and happiness all over and it kind of made me realize that I can create happiness and relieve stress taht I may be holding on to. Both exercises though were fun and interesting and I will continue to do them.

Unit 7 Mindfulness Blog

Hello Everyone,

Mindfulness and meditation has fostered an increase in my psychological and spiritual wellness because it has allowed me to focus more on a daily basis on other aspects that I normally would not focus on. I think of others and wish for the best for them. By meditating on a daily basis I will continue to allow myself to focus on other items that allow me to relieve stress and purify my thoughts. Creating a still mind ultimately creates a great avenue in relieveing stress or issues that I may be holding on to.

One can not lead another where one has not gone himself, to me simply means that if you have not experienced something how can you guide someone else through the situation. If I have clients I most definitely have an obligation to continue to develope my health psychologically, physically and spirituality. By doing this I will enable myself to grow in what I preach. You should not expect others to follow you in having a healthier lifestyle if you are sloppy and unhealthy. Who gets advice from an overweight personal trainer? Implementing psychological and spiritual growth in my personal life I will allow myself to grow mentally and to maintain my overall health.

Unit 6 Loving-Kindness

Hello Everyone,

This exercise was meant to expand our mind and our hearts and it can aid in treating anger and hatred that one might feel towards another. This exercise was interesting but I liked it because it makes you think of others and not yourself. Our focus was to go from personal love to universal loving-kindness. Four sentences had to be repeated for ten minutes but within these ten minutes it enabled me to see that I was opening my heart to a bigger picture. I always wish the best for others but not everyday for ten minutes this makes me fully forgive and even let go of what might be hurting me or who ever has angered me. This was a great exercise and I truly liked it just like I liked the last one.

The subtle mind

Hello everyone,

Well when it came time to participate in this activity I was finally to grasp on to the activity and focus. I focused on my breathing and enabled myself to only focus on that. The other exercise wanted us to grasp and cling on to who we wanted to give happiness and joy to. I like this activity better because when I got distracted I just had to refocus on my breathing unlike the other exercise where I just. Kept my mind racing. This activity also enabled myself to relax and gain control and see that my mind can shut off from thoughts.

Loving-Kindness

Hello Everyone,

After practicing the loving-kindness exercise I came to reaalize that it was very beneficial. I say this because it allow me to come to peace with others and find peace for them which in turn created peace for my self. Sending out health and joy for my loved ones as well as for those that I was not aware created happiness inside of my self because I was not just bombarded for the first time with my thoughts and my personnal feelings. Instead I was thinking of others and in a sense sending positive vibes their way. Definitely I would recommend this exercise for others because it creates a sense of clarity which then provides happiness and loving-kindness for others.

A mental workout is allowing your mind to fully focus on particular topics or ideas such as health, happiness, or even school subjects or stress and honing in on a particular one and allowing your brain to have structural change which would be beneficial for you. Amental workout can transform the mind by taking out the negative and replacing it with positive. Having a positive outlook for yourself is very beneficial in the end for your overall health which is great .

Wishing everyone a great week and a great rest of the semester. Hope you all are watching the Olympics because they are truly amazing! Enjoy!!!

Thanks,

Shana Rodriguez

Unit 3 My Overall Wellness

Hello Everyone,

Well if I had rate my optimal wellbeing I would say that my physical wellbeing is at a 7.5 because lately I have not been working out since I have been visiting with my twin sister. As for my spiritual wellbeing it would be at a 8 because I have a high sense of faith and I attend church and I try to spiritually stay connected in all aspects. My psychological wellbeing would be low at a 6 because I keep eveything inside of me that bothers me. I do not really release how I feel with others and I try to keep to my self because then I dont have to worry about others and what they think sometimes.
A goal that I would set for my self for each of these areas are to get back to working out on  adaily basis, and to open up more to the people that care for me on a daily basis. Also by doing this I will allow myself to relieve stress and to be balanced. To reach these goals I will continue to do yoga as well as go running. Also I will speak to others more often and stop keeping my feelings in and release them positively.  By doing this I will ultimately allow myself to be at peace and allow myself to create balance that will be positively beneficial for myself.

My reflection on the journey on relaxation exercise

After listening to the Journey on relaxation exercise it actually made me feel at ease. I totally focused and did exactly as it asked and it relaxed me and ultimately made me fall asleep. Now I do not know if I was supposed to fall asleep from this exercise but lets just say I was extremely tired from a 7:50am tee time at the golf course today. The exercise was rather insightful and it allowed me to focus on my breathing and it also enabled me to clear my mind and just breathe easy and calmy. Overall I enjoyed the exercise but I did have to do it twice since I fell asleep on the first shot of trying it.

Welcome Everyone

Good Evening everyone! Well I am not really sure if I am doing this whole blog thing the right way so here goes nothing. My name is Shana and I have an identical twin who is actually visiting me from Oklahoma on leave from the US Navy. I will be graduating this September and lets just say thank god and finally! How is everyone doing and how has your weekend been?
