Unit 9 Final Project
I. Introduction:
Why is it important for health and
wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically?
What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?
Answer:
It is
important for wellness professionals to develop in these three areas because
you should practice what you preach. By developing these areas though it will
enable them to have a clear mind and to create a sense of happiness and
positive health. It will enable one to create balance between life and to truly
enjoy it. Developing psychologically will develop ones mental training. Spiritual
health is considered to be
the search for meaning and purpose in human existence, leading one to strive
for a state of harmony with oneself and others while working to balance inner
needs with the rest of the world. Engaging in activities such as yoga and
meditation when enable one to be more spiritually in tuned with their self. The
areas that I would need to develop are psychologically because I tend to stress
a lot about everything and I need to learn to create a still mind and to focus
on other things that will give me a sense of clarity.
II. Assessment:
How have you assessed your health in each
domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and
psychologically?
Answer:
Yes,
I have assessed my health in each domain and I have come to realize that I need
to work on the psychological domain. my physical wellbeing is at a 9 because I have been training for a
marathon that will take place in January. As for my spiritual wellbeing it
would be at a 8 because I have a high sense of faith and I attend church and I
try to spiritually stay connected in all aspects. My psychological wellbeing
would be low at a 6 because I keep everything inside of me that bothers me. I
do not really release how I feel with others and I try to keep to my self
because then I don't have to worry about others and what they think sometimes.
III. Goal Development:
List at least one goal you have for yourself
in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual.
Answer:
A main goal for the physical
domain for me is to continue to work out on a daily basis but incorporate
eating healthy along with it. As for my psychological domain I need to open up
more to the people that care for me on a daily basis. Also by doing this I will
allow myself to relieve stress and to be balanced. To reach these goals I will
continue to do yoga as well as go running which would help my spiritual well
being. Also I will speak to others more often and stop keeping my feelings in
and release them positively. By doing this I will ultimately allow myself to be
at peace and allow myself to create balance that will be positively beneficial
for myself.
IV. Practices for Personal Health:
What strategies can you implement to foster
growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and
Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each
domain. Explain how you will implement each example.
Answer:
The
strategies that I could foster when it comes to spiritual health is to continue
to participate in Yoga as well as meditation. Some meditation and prayer
exercises could be done and I could also have compassion and love for others to
give me a clear and still mind. As for psychological I could engage in the
activities such as loving-kindness and subtle mind. By staying positive and
creating happiness for my self I will let myself maintain a positive health
mentally. Also a really good exercise that I could engage in would be the
visualization exercise. It allowed me to focus on happiness and to eliminate
any negative feelings that I was feeling at that point in time. As for physical
I will continue to stay physically active by training for my marathon and by
working out and eating a healthy diet. Partaking in all of these activities
will be very beneficial for my overall health in the long run but will truly
make me happy right now is I stick with it.
V. Commitment:
How will you assess your progress or lack of
progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in
maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?
Answer:
The
way that I can definitely assess my progress for the next six months would be
to keep a journal . In this journal I will write down everything that I do for
the day right before I go to bed. In maintaining my long-term practices for
health and wellness I will continue to keep a log especially if I maintain it
for the first six months. By engaging in these three domains I will enable
myself to get stronger mentally, physically and spiritually. Doing this will
allow my self to have a better and positive attitude that will not only help me
in the work place but with school and working out on a daily basis. I think if
I also continue to write on my blog then it will let me interact with fellow
classmates who are doing the same as I am.
Hello Shana,
ReplyDeleteGreat final project!
I also think it is vital to practice what we preach because clients will turn to us for insight and if we are not following what we preach, I think it will show in an outward way. For example, I would hesitate to take nutritional advice or a diet plan from an overweight or obese nutritionist or dietician.
Good work! It was so nice working with you this term!

The final goal of integral healing stresses the fact that humans can actually shift our lives with clarity and with confidence in order to implement aspects of; wholeness, happiness, and a healthier life style. The embodiment of these concepts lead to human flourishing as a systemic element. It is an opportunity that no other human will be able to do for us. We must act in improving our lives on all levels to embody complete health and happiness. I can apply these concepts to my profession by applying them opposed using a more traditional health care methods. The next time I have to respond to a patient that is experiencing an emergency. I will look beyond the physical ailments of the illness. I will be able to more easily identify the patient as a whole human instead of “only the injury” they have suffered. I will be able to apply these conditions and cultivate an opinion that is not based on only the physiological damage, but also the mental, emotional, and spiritual loss. In my profession I come across a large number of injured, ill, and physiologically challenges patients. An integral approach to health will offer a shift in priorities to both my patients and I.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your final project. Your introduction was very straight forward and I agree with everything that you stated. Being able to talk to your patients about developing the three topics will only work if you have developed them yourself and if you truly believe in it.
I wish that I was able to train for a marathon but I'm not that focused to do so, yes I'm in very good shape but not marathon shape so good work on that. Overall I think that your post is awesome! You pointed out things that I thought would be very useful like doing meditation and prayer exercises and doing yoga.
